Berlin-based Menura Audio has taken the wraps off two new hardware effects units, the MDFX Delay and MDFX Reverb, launching them via Kickstarter on 1 July 2026. The units follow the company's earlier MDMX modular DJ mixer and analogue MDFX effects, and are pitched as add-ons rather than replacements for existing mixer setups, connecting via master insert or aux send/return with true stereo operation over balanced 6.35 mm jacks. Both can be magnetically mounted beside a mixer in vertical or horizontal orientation.
The MDFX Delay is a BPM-synced stereo delay offering subdivisions from an eighth note to four bars, along with reverse delay, self-oscillation, stereo spread, filtering, ducking, and a TAPE parameter that pushes the sound from clean digital repeats toward a warped tape character. The MDFX Reverb centers on a plate algorithm aimed at live performance, with a Freeze button, BPM-locked tremolo and shimmer, damping, high-pass filtering, ducking, and a lo-fi mode. Both units support tap tempo, automatic BPM detection (including from vinyl), and MIDI clock, with full parameter control and preset recall over USB MIDI.
A notable feature of the campaign is a browser-based demo system built from the same DSP source code as the hardware firmware, compiled to WebAssembly, letting prospective backers try the effects online before pledging — though the browser demos run at 48 kHz versus the hardware's 96 kHz/32-bit float processing, and lack MIDI, auto-BPM, and recording functionality. Each physical unit also includes a class-compliant USB audio interface for pre- or post-effect recording without additional drivers across macOS, Windows, iOS, and Linux, and runs on USB-C power, including standalone from a power bank.
The enclosures are CNC-milled aluminium with metal knobs, hand-built and tested in Berlin. Kickstarter pricing starts at €340 per unit, rising to a €380 campaign price, with a Delay and Reverb pair available from €680; expected retail pricing is €429 per unit. Backer units are slated to ship in early Q4 2026.
